Wedding Invitation: Pool blue, Chocolate & Cream

This wedding invitation is a simple design for an intimate affair. A brocade design creates a border across the top and bottom of the invitation in chocolate brown and cream. 

What's great about this invitation is that the background can be switched from pool blue to any color you'd like - It would be beautiful in light pink for a baby shower or a lemon yellow.

Aisle Runner: Alicia & Stephen

where ever you would like. This one is at the very end of the runner. 

These runners are pretty opaque and have a poly backing to 

help them hold up under foot traffic.

Co-Ed Wedding Shower: Vintage BBQ

Mae Beth & Allen's shower was this past weekend at Jim & Nick's in Birmingham. The 5 Points location has a great room for parties - also great for rehearsal dinners. I kept it simple using centerpieces down each long table. 

Using chalkboard paint, after scraping the labels off about 15 wine bottles (!), the bottles got a nice matte black coat of paint. I then applied cut out letters that included conversation starters for the tables. This one says Superior Grill, the couples favorite, low-key, restaurant. Also used were childhood nicknames, first pet names, where he proposed, first date location, etc.

I loved these little $1 frames from Michael's, customized with a little note "Love is sweet like BBQ". Everything sat on a 12" square piece of burlap. 

These galvanized pails are from IKEA. $.79 each. Customized labels matched the invitations. The flowers were from Import Flowers off Murphy Rd in Nashville. If you haven't been there, you have to go for your next event.

I also made gourmet s'mores for dessert! YUM. I'll share the recipe later this week.

Everyone had a blast. An easy, no set up, no cooking, no clean up shower is always the best. And the couple got some LOOT - I mean the gifts were insanely good, plus the bride has impeccable taste. I'm so looking forward to their wedding in October. 

Burlap Invitations for Low Country Boil (Crawfish Boil)

These invitations are for an event being held at a place that is near and dear to my heart. In Point Clear, Al, there is a little Inn (Dorgan's Inn) that sits on the wharf. (I am from South Alabama, and my family still lives there.) Dorgan's has this fabulous pier and deck that reaches way out into the bay. This couple is holding their rehearsal dinner way out there on that pier and serving a southern fav...crawfish. Their decor will use burlap, ice blue glassware and vases and these beautiful lanterns with red candles.

Oh yes...the important part...the invitations!

That's real burlap... it was a little experiment on my part to figure out how to get it stiff. After lots of fabric stiffener... and a really big mess on my patio...it worked perfectly.

So happy to see these meet the mother of groom's expectations. These will definitely set the tone for casual, relaxed and fun out on the bay.

Pocket Baby Shower Invitation: Nautical Theme

This might be the cutest shower theme ever. How cute is a sailing theme for a little boys room? These baby shower invitations sit in a paisley pocket wrapped in grosgrain ribbon and secured with a 1" circle tag. The invitation is 3 layers of red, metallic baby blue and a custom designed invitation. 

Love is Patient. Holly and Lee.

Holly and Lee are getting married this May, and we are busy working on her wedding invitations, rehearsal dinner invitation and ceremony programs. I met Holly through my mother-in-law. Small world...Holly and my MIL met while taking a class together and as they started to get to know one another, found out that their families are from the same small town in Indiana. When Holly got engaged and started talking about how hard it was to find the invitations she wanted, with a music theme, she got pointed in my direction. :)


Holly and Lee have waited patiently for each other... both longing for God to put someone in their life who was perfect and true. Two friends introduced them and the rest is history. They both have a love for music and a love for the Lord. Music and scripture are big parts of their wedding theme (Holly, a vocalist and Lee, a trumpet player). We incorporated those very specific themes into their invitations. First was the logo. After many discussions about the font and the incorporation of the trumpet and microphone, this was what Holly and Lee chose. You'll see how it is incorporated into the invitations next.

Holly and Lee's colors are Pool Blue, Black and White. Bright and sophisticated colors for a bright and sophisticated couple. We started off with the invitations - again, incorporating the music theme with the music staff, trumpet and microphone.

The invitation is mounted on pool blue card stock with a layer of white card stock and vellum, attached with a sheer black ribbon with a chevron end. You can see the treble clef, music staff, trumpet and microphone on the white layer show through the vellum. The response card also uses the treble clef and the logo is on the back of the outer envelope under the return address. We then turned our attention to rehearsal dinner invitations.

As we started talking about their guests, I suggested that we do a combo invitation so that guests invited to the rehearsal dinner would only need to send in one response card. We came up with a tri-fold invitation to include all the information these special guests needed.

The invitation is on the left, with the rehearsal dinner invitation in the pocket on the right, along with directions, a map with accommodation information and the response card. The logo was used as a clasp to keep the invitation closed.


We incorporated scripture in two different places: on the inner envelope and on the invitation. It reads:

...when they ask God's blessing on their union and His presence in their new life together...

and on the inner envelope...1 Corinthians 13:13: Love never fails...And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

Couples Shower Football Style

How fun is a tailgate? This couple wanted a laid back, no frills event. So, we set up a tailgate to watch the big game this past weekend. Little details can make a big difference! The theme was Kentucky blue and white. The invitation inspiration came from a vintage football ticket I found on a Google Image search. Carrying the theme throughout with labels and table settings set the mood.

We also set up a tent with BBQ outside - complete with lanterns, yard games and a fire pit to keep everyone warm - but I didn't get any pictures! Sham on me because it was so cute. Everyone had a great time and it was great to see the couple surrounded by good friends. Thanks to B.Jackson's for the lemon & fudge squares!
