Sneak Peak: Surprise Baby Shower Invitation
Sneaky shower hosts, hosting a surprise of their own! This couple doesn't know the sex of the baby AND they don't know they are going to attend their shower, given by friends. I love the spontaneity of this group and how they are turning the tables!

Inspiration Board: Rubber Ducky Shower
Here's another inspiration board for a baby shower. We went with the less "babyish" theme to fit the mom's taste, but thought I'd share this on as well. Enjoy!

Inspiration Board: Sailing Shower
Happy Friday! Here is a little eye candy for the sailing / nautical themed shower. The deets on that shower can be found here. I wasn't originally planning on sharing this, so I totally didn't keep up with all of the photo/blog credits, but I think I got them all below. Enjoy!

Burp Cloth Wreath.
Wreaths are such a cute baby shower gift because they add to the decor and the new mommy can take it with them to the hospital to hang on their door. This wreath is, again, the sailor theme of the baby shower we planned for baby Ridge and his mommy. Plus, once it's all said and done, she can actually use the burp cloths. This is a great gift for shower, hospital and home.
Sorry for the floppy picture...everyone couldn't keep their hands off of it!

Events: Sailor Baby Shower.
One of my very best friends is having her first child! She is the first really close friend of mine who is pregnant. Don't get me wrong...we've had our fair share of baby showers lately. But this...is my best friend. And, she has asked me and my hubby to be Godparents. We are so honored! And scared that we won't live up to that title. But, we are going to do our best! And I started with her baby shower.
You may remember these theme-appropriate invitations designed byyours truly A Little Something Detailed. I went a little over board. (Wow...pardon the pun. Honest accident!) It is rare that someone would use such a fancy invitation for a baby shower. But, think of these as a wedding invitation. The red ribbon is chocolate brown with your monogram in the middle and the layers of the invitation are a dark metallic chocolate, icy blue and shimmery crystal white. There...a beautiful invitation for a more formal occasion.
Baby Ridge's nursery is sailing themed, so we took that and ran with it. Upon arriving guests, were allowed to guess Whitney's circumference, were handed 3 clothes pins (we couldn't say "baby" or someone could take your clothes pin) and were asked to fill out a mad lib about the big event, which we made Whitney read aloud before open her gifts.
The paper details were, of course, the best place to pull in the theme. We used a personalized party banner on the mantel with balloons and picture frames adorned with a smaller sailing flag party banner.
All aroundthe absolutely beautiful and huge home of the future grandmother, were photos of Whit throughout here pregnancy and decor to set the theme. Diaper cakes are making a huge come back and was one of the center pieces of the decor, pulling double duty when they run out of diapers at midnight one day. :)
This really was a great baby shower with over 50 guests! Lots of fun. Lots of people. And lots of baby loot for the new mommy.

Race Car Baby Shower.
Remember these cute little baby shower invitations?
The shower was Memorial Day weekend in Indianapolis. Also, Indy 500 weekend. Indianapolis has a great little historic area called Broadripple. It's hip. It's fun. It's young. Our friends Brooke and JD hosted at their humble abode...which they completely restored and have made a wonderful home for themselves and little one, Jackson.
Brooke surprised everyone with the cutest baby shower cake I have ever seen......this was $60. Really? You can't get a sheet cake from Wal-Mart for that little.
A few shots of the spread...
Here's a little tip for party planning outdoors... use double-sided tape along the edge of your tables to keep table clothes from flying away.
We played awesome games too - bottle chugging. A lot harder than it looks. Just 2 oz. took 3 minutes or so.
And a relay race. For this one, we filled up water balloons and had the guys walk down to a table where their relay partner/wife/girlfriend waited for them to get there without popping the balloon.
Once at the table, the ladies had to feed the baby, change the baby, diaper the baby and put it in a stroller for the guys to run back across the finish line.
Above: Ricka explaining what things are to Justin - classic. These were little teepees - used for boys when changing so you don't get a little surprise.
We had a blast showering Justin and Ricka with gifts and fun. They will make great parents to their little boy, and everyone is thrilled to meet him...if he will ever come out to join us!

Baby Shower Invitations. Race Cars.
This is Indy 500 / racing themed invitation for some friends who are from Indianapolis. The shower is Memorial Day weekend, the day before the Indianapolis 500 race - what a great idea! Everyone will be around for race day, so it's a great time to celebrate. Plus, it helps that it's a boy. My favorite part is that I changed the logo from "Indy Racing League" to "Indy Baby League". Clever, right?

Cute & Custom Gift.
This was a wonderful idea that a friend (Emily) created for the baby shower I attended last week. Custom to the theme and colors of our friend's new little girl's room. She grabbed a photo frame from Hobby Lobby, painted the front green - leaving the sides the original color, pink. She attached the ribbon and princess pin to the top with hot glue. She even customized the gift bag, by removing the twine handles and replacing with the same ribbon used on the frame. Just had to pass this along - very cute idea!

Gift Wrapping: Baby Shower
Baby showers are always fun - a great way to bond with with friends as they make a new journey into parenthood. It is also a great way to learn all kinds of stuff that you didn't ever want to know about your friends - and for me (someone without little ones) - scare the crap out of me every wanting to have kids. Eke. Presentation is always fun with gifts, so below is a great idea for how to put together a baby shower gift with little effort.
After gathering all the registry list, I started hunting for things big and small, bulky and filler gifts to make my basket. Target has everything Valentine's Day on sale, so finding a great, and inexpensive basket was easy. I came home and layed everything out on the floor.

First, I stuffed the bottom of my basket with tissue paper in order to have the gifts sit up a little higher and not get lost.
Start with the largest piece and set it right in the middle.
Then start filling in with the smaller items.

Add a bow and card, and you have an easy and fun way to present your gift to the mom-to-be.
